Clean lines, warm wood and a touch of Bauhaus. The Ono Flush Edge Bed is a mid century modern bed frame built from North American yellow poplar, with a European beech center beam and slat rails and slim stainless steel legs.

Its headboard stands straight up instead of leaning back, so the whole bed is only 81.5 in (207 cm) long. That saves about 8 in of floor space compared with an angled headboard and leaves more room to walk around the bed. The frame sits flush against the wall, so pillows, phones and books don't slip down the back.

The 17.3 in (44 cm) headboard mounts at three heights to suit your mattress: low for 4 to 6 in, middle for 6 to 10 in, high for 10 to 12 in. Whatever mattress you choose, you get a comfortable headboard to lean against. Expansion slots and a vertical brace on the back help the wood resist cracking in humid weather.

Underneath, four stainless steel corner legs and two beech center legs spread the load evenly, and the bed held about 1,650 lb (750 kg) in the maker's load test. Mortise and tenon slats, reinforced with bolts, keep the bed quiet night after night. The frame stands 7.5 in (19 cm) off the floor, so a robot vacuum or storage bins slide right under, and the 18.1 in (46 cm) sitting height makes getting in and out of bed easy.

Each frame is hand stained, then finished with three primer coats and a topcoat for a rich, even color that shows the natural grain.

FEATURES
  • Flush edge frame with an upright headboard: the headboard stands straight rather than leaning back, which shortens the overall length of the bed and leaves a wider walkway, so even a tight bedroom feels roomier.
  • Two colors: vintage brown is a soft light brown with a mid century warmth that keeps a bedroom bright, and walnut is a deep, low saturation brown that reads quiet and substantial.
  • Headboard at three heights: low for a 4 to 6 inch (10 to 15 cm) mattress, middle for 6 to 10 inches (15 to 25 cm), high for 10 to 12 inches (25 to 30 cm).
  • Grid of solid wood slats: reinforced at multiple points so weight spreads evenly across the frame. Choose poplar, which breathes, releases moisture and resists bending for everyday use, or beech, which is harder and takes compression better for a longer service life.
  • Ledge built into the headboard: a place to set down the small things you reach for before bed.
  • Tested for formaldehyde emissions: safe to use in a home with children.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Wipe clean with a soft, dry cloth. Keep the table out of direct sunlight and away from excess moisture to protect the finish.

NOTES
• All dimensions are measured by hand with a tolerance of ±0.79".
• Images are for reference only. Actual color may vary slightly due to monitor settings and natural variation in wood grain.
• Power: Any product with a cord or a built-in outlet ships with a US plug adapter already fitted, so it works on a standard 120V outlet out of the box. Nothing extra to buy.
A flush edge frame that gives the floor back

01 / FOR SMALLER ROOMS

A flush edge frame that gives the floor back

The headboard stands at a true right angle instead of leaning back, which pulls the whole length of the bed in and leaves a wider walkway around it. Getting in and out, or just crossing the room, stops being a sidestep. Because the frame is flush along its edges, it sits tight against the wall with no gap behind it, and a small bedroom reads more open than its square footage suggests. What you get back is not only a few inches of floor, it is the ease of moving through your own room, which is what makes this the right frame for a smaller space.

02 / COLOR

Two colors for two different rooms

Vintage brown is the warm one, a soft light brown with the feel of afternoon sun, which gives a bedroom a mid century mood and keeps it bright. Walnut is the deep one, a low saturation dark brown that reads quiet and substantial, the kind of color that holds up over years of looking at it. One is gentle, the other is grounded. Whichever mood you are after, there is a version that gets you there.

03 / STRENGTH

A grid of solid wood slats, built to last

The slats are laid out in a grid and secured at multiple points, so weight spreads evenly across the frame rather than loading any one spot. Turning over or getting out of bed stays steady and quiet. Two slat options are available. Poplar breathes well, releases moisture and resists bending, which covers everyday use. Beech is harder and takes compression better, so it lasts longer under heavier loads. Choose by what you need. A good bed is only as good as what is holding up the mattress.

Hand wiped stain and layered coats for a warm, even color

04 / FINISH

Hand wiped stain and layered coats for a warm, even color

The color goes on by hand first, then two coats of low emission primer, which lets the finish sink into the grain rather than sitting on top of it. The result holds its adhesion and resists chipping. A matte topcoat goes on last, leaving the surface even and warm to look at. Single coat spray finishes sit on the surface and tend to dull over time; this one keeps its depth.
