Top Grain Leather Sofa, Distressed Oil Wax Vintage Leather Couch with Deep Seat and Down Blend Cushions
A leather sofa that looks better every year. The Truffle Sofa is covered in semi aniline top grain cowhide with an oil wax finish. It has a soft, lived in sheen from day one, and it develops a richer patina as you use it. Spills and marks wipe away easily.
The seat is deep and wide enough to stretch out on, and on a lazy afternoon it works as a single bed. The tall backrest is split into sections, so the cushions follow the shape of your shoulders, lower back, hips and legs instead of pushing against them. Deep tufting holds the cushions full and gives the sofa its relaxed, pillowy look.
Inside, every cushion layers a goose down blend over fiber clusters and 42D high density foam. The top feels soft to sink into, and the foam underneath keeps its shape. Underneath, 3.8 mm heavy gauge sinuous springs and rubber webbing sit on a frame of New Zealand larch and plywood, with a North American yellow poplar base. The frame is sturdy enough that the maker tested it with people jumping on it.
The wide 9.8 inch (25 cm) armrests are rounded and flat on top, so you can rest a cup or a book on them. Slim stainless steel legs lift the sofa 5.9 inches (15 cm) off the floor, enough for a robot vacuum to clean underneath.
Choose chestnut brown for a warm vintage look, or meteorite black for a sharper, modern contrast. The larger sizes split into separate sections, which makes them easier to carry through doors and up stairs.

NOTES
01 / THE HIDE
Top grain cowhide, rich without being precious
This is real cowhide, the top layer of the hide, with the grain the animal actually had. It is lightly buffed to even out the surface, which is what makes it a sofa you can live with rather than one you manage. Compared with a completely untouched hide, it takes daily life better. Compared with leather that has been sanded down hard and had a grain pattern sprayed back on, it keeps the depth and the slight irregularity of a real surface, and it stays supple instead of going stiff. You feel the difference under your hand on day one, and you see it in five years, when it has darkened and softened rather than cracked.
02 / THE FINISH
Oil wax, worked in rather than laid on
The oils are worked into the hide rather than coated onto it, soaking down through the fibers and feeding the leather from the inside. There is no heavy, greasy film on the surface, and the hand gets softer the more you use it. Over time the leather darkens where you sit and where your hands land, and a patina builds that nobody can apply at the factory. Every sofa ends up looking slightly different, because it is yours.
03 / THE BACK
Reclined cushions that follow your lower back
The back is angled to meet the natural curve of your spine, so your lower back is supported rather than left hanging and your shoulders are not pushed forward. Pressure spreads out instead of landing in one place, which is what makes a long sitting comfortable rather than tiring. Sitting up to talk, or half lying down for an hour, you can find a position that holds you.
04 / THE SEAT
24.4 in deep, enough for however you want to sit
The seat is 24.4 in (62 cm) deep, which is room to sit cross legged, to half recline, or to sleep on it through an afternoon. Nobody has to perch on the edge. Upright with guests, or curled up through four episodes, the sofa takes the shape of whatever you are doing rather than making you sit one way.
