Sliding Door Cabinet, Mid Century Solid Wood Display Cabinet with Adjustable Shelves
Decide what gets seen
Two panel doors, one muted green and one cream, slide across the front of the cabinet. Nothing swings out into the room, so you can put this against a wall in a hallway or beside a sofa without leaving clearance for a door. Slide a panel left and the shelf behind it is on display. Slide it right and the clutter behind the other one disappears. The cabinet looks different depending on where you leave the doors, and changing it takes one hand.
Open and closed in the same piece
The case is 59.1 in (150 cm) wide and 63.0 in (160 cm) tall, divided into bays of different heights. Two drawers sit low, with an interior of 20.4 × 8.9 × 6.7 in (51.7 × 22.7 × 17 cm). The column beside them is left open for display, with clear heights of 18.9 in (48 cm), 16.9 in (43 cm) and 11.0 in (28 cm), which covers hardcovers standing up, records filed upright, a turntable, or a row of ceramics. Behind the sliding panel are two more shelves, and those move through five positions, so what you keep out of sight is sized to fit as precisely as what you leave on show.
A rail that holds the magazine you are halfway through
The tubular stainless handle runs the full width of the front panel. It is a handle, and it is also where a magazine or an LP sleeve sits face out, which turns the cover into the thing you see rather than the spine. Small detail, but it is the difference between a cabinet that stores things and one that shows them.
Solid wood, and nothing pretending to be it
Carcase, doors, drawer boxes and shelves are thermally modified poplar, heat treated for 96 hours in a sealed kiln so the moisture that makes softwood move is driven out and the color runs right through the wood. There is no veneer anywhere on this piece and no composite panel, which also means no panel adhesive, the source of added formaldehyde in most furniture at this price. A third party lab tested this construction and found formaldehyde not detected. Stainless steel is used for the handles and the slim corner posts, and the interior shelves are ultra clear tempered glass.
Finished in four passes
Color is rubbed in by hand, then two penetrating primer coats go on, then an open pore topcoat, for a film around 0.2 mm. Open pore means you still feel the grain under your fingers instead of a sheet of plastic over it. The plinth is set back at the base so the cabinet clears a baseboard and sits flat to the wall.
Expect real wood character: tiger stripe figure, live knots, mineral streaks, pale sapwood edges and variation between panels. These come from the tree.

NOTES
01 / Storage, Divided
Some of it on show, the rest behind a door
The Silver Wing display cabinet splits into several kinds of storage at once, with a hinged door, two drawers and a sliding panel section. Books and objects you want seen go in the open bays. Everything else goes behind a front, where it stays clean. The warm wood against muted color reads well in a living room or a study, and the half open, half closed structure means the cabinet is doing two jobs at the same time. It holds what you own, and it gives a few of those things a stage.
02 / Shelves That Move
Five shelf positions, so height is not fixed
The shelves inside adjust through five heights. Set them to what you are actually storing, whether that is wine bottles, coffee equipment, books, or a single large piece that needs the full opening. You are not working around a fixed shelf spacing and leaving dead air above everything short. Tall things and small things share the same cabinet without either of them wasting the space of the other.
03 / Two Drawers
Two solid wood drawers, each its own compartment
Two solid wood drawers sit low in the case, each with an interior of 20.4 × 8.9 × 6.7 in (51.7 × 22.7 × 17 cm). They ride on undermount rails with a soft close, so they run quietly and evenly all the way out. The pull is cut from the wood itself rather than added on, which keeps the front flat and the look quiet. Two separate drawers means two separate places, so what goes in one does not end up mixed with the other.
04 / Solid Wood Throughout
Solid wood all the way through
Solid wood inside and out, with no plywood core and no filler stock. The case is dense, heavy, and built to stay that way. Because there is no composite panel anywhere in the cabinet, there is no panel adhesive either, and panel adhesive is the source of added formaldehyde in most furniture at this price. A third party lab tested this construction and found formaldehyde not detected. Nothing needs to air out before the piece comes into the room.
